1. Assoc. Prof. Berkay Akmaz
Ophthalmology Specialist – Assoc. Prof. Dr. Berkay Akmaz was born in Izmir in 1985. Due to his father’s profession, he spent his primary education years in different cities. He began his education at the Gülhane Military Medical Academy in 2003. In 2010, he graduated from the Ege University Faculty of Medicine with the title of medical doctor.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Berkay Akmaz ranked 25th in Turkey in the Medical Specialization Examination (TUS) in 2010 and began his specialization training in the Department of Ophthalmology and Eye Surgery at Dr. Lütfi Kırdar Kartal Training and Research Hospital. He completed his specialization training in 2014.
Between 2014 and 2019, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Berkay Akmaz worked as an ophthalmology specialist at Katip Çelebi University Atatürk Training and Research Hospital. In 2019, he participated in the “Vitreoretinal Surgical Techniques Mini-Fellowship Program” held in Germany. Between 2019 and 2021, he continued his work at Manisa City Hospital.
In 2021, after successfully passing the Chief Assistant Examination, he was appointed as Chief Assistant at the Ophthalmology Clinic of Izmir Bozyaka Training and Research Hospital. In the same year, he was awarded the title of Associate Professor in the field of Ophthalmology and Eye Surgery by the Council of Higher Education.
After receiving the TÜBİTAK Postdoctoral Research Fellowship, he conducted scientific research for one year as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Cornea, Cataract, Ocular Surface, and Refractive Surgery Unit of the Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins University Hospital in the United States—one of the most advanced research hospitals in the field of ophthalmology. During this period, he participated in numerous surgical and clinical practices.
In 2017, he successfully passed the European Board of Ophthalmology Examination held in Paris and obtained the European Board of Ophthalmology Diploma and the FEBO title.
In 2017, he successfully passed the International Council of Ophthalmology examinations in Optics & Refraction, Basic Sciences, and Clinical Sciences.
In 2018, he successfully passed the International Council of Ophthalmology Advanced Examination and received the title of FICO (Fellow of the International Council of Ophthalmology).
He has more than 40 scientific publications, translations, book chapters, and editorial contributions published in national and international peer-reviewed journals. With thousands of surgeries performed throughout his professional career, he continues to provide medical services to his patients using the highest quality technology and equipment.

2. Prof. Dr. Tansu Erakgün
Prof. Dr. Tansu Erakgün, born in Izmir on March 20, 1968, completed his secondary education at Saint Joseph College and his high school education at Karşıyaka Gazi High School. He graduated from the Ege University Faculty of Medicine, which he entered in 1986, in 1992. In the same year, he began his residency training at the Department of Ophthalmology at the Ege University Faculty of Medicine Hospital. After becoming a specialist in 1997, he continued working at the same clinic as a specialist physician, focusing on Retinal Diseases and Vitreoretinal Surgery. He further advanced his training in this field at various institutions including Antwerp, Belgium (Dr. Zivanovic Clinic), Frankfurt, Germany (Dr. Eckardt Clinic), and Duisburg, Germany. Dr. Erakgün received the title of associate professor in 2004 and professor in 2010. In 2013, he left his position at the Department of Ophthalmology at Ege University Faculty of Medicine Hospital.
He is currently an active member of the Turkish Ophthalmology Association Vitreoretinal Surgery Unit, the Turkish Ophthalmology Association Medical Retina Unit, and the Turkish Ophthalmology Association Ocular Traumatology Unit. He is also a member of the European Vitreoretinal Society and the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He has published numerous articles in national and international scientific journals.
The instruments he designed for use in vitrectomy surgery, called the “Erakgun spatula knife” and the “Erakgun snare,” have been documented in the scientific literature and are used worldwide.
He specializes in diabetic eye complications, retinal detachment, ocular trauma and intraocular foreign bodies, macular degeneration, macular hole, epiretinal membrane, and complications of cataract surgery, and has performed more than 15,000 surgical procedures.
3. Dr. Ömer Takeş, MD
Op. Dr. Ömer Takeş graduated from the Uludağ University Faculty of Medicine in 2010. He completed his specialization training at Dokuz Eylül University in 2015.
After completing his specialization, he worked at Izmir Çiğli Regional Training Hospital from 2015 to 2018. He then worked at Izmir Private Kaşkaloğlu Eye Hospital until 2022.
He has more than 50 national and international publications and presentations.
Since 2022, he has been providing medical services to his patients at his private clinic in Alsancak, Izmir.
4. Dr. Emrah Mat, MD
Specialist Dr. Emrah Mat graduated from the Ege University Faculty of Medicine. He completed his specialization training at Izmir Atatürk Training and Research Hospital.
He has worked respectively at Izmir Atatürk Training and Research Hospital, Gaziantep Ersin Arslan Training and Research Hospital, and Turgutlu State Hospital.
He currently works at Izmir Private Egepol Hospital.
6. Dr. Sedat Selim, MD
Op. Dr. Sedat Selim graduated from the Ege University Faculty of Medicine in 2004. He began his specialization training in 2004 and completed it in 2009. He received his specialization training at Ege University.
After completing his specialization training, he fulfilled his mandatory service at Burdur Bucak State Hospital. Until 2014, he worked for 2 years at Atatürk Training and Research Hospital affiliated with Izmir Katip Çelebi University.
He worked at Bolu Training and Research Hospital until 2016. From 2016 to 2019, he served at Çiğli Regional Training Hospital.
He speaks English, French, and Balkan languages fluently. He is a member of the Turkish Ophthalmology Association and the Turkish Medical Association.

7. Dr. Ebru Acar, MD
Op. Dr. Ebru Acar was born in Uşak in 1975. She graduated from the Ankara University Faculty of Medicine in 1999. She completed her specialization training at Izmir Atatürk Training and Research Hospital in 2004.
After completing her specialization training, she worked at Kars State Hospital. Between 2007 and 2018, she worked respectively at Private Karşıyaka Eye Hospital, Private Egepol Hospital, and Private Ekol Eye Hospital.
She is a member of the Turkish Ophthalmology Association and the Turkish Medical Association.
Since 2018, she has been providing medical services to her patients at her private clinic in Karşıyaka Mavibahçe.
8. Dr. Ali Türker, MD
Op. Dr. Ali Türker was born in Izmir in 1972. He completed his medical education at the Ege University Faculty of Medicine in 1996. He completed his specialization training at Izmir Atatürk Training and Research Hospital in 2002.
After completing his specialization training, he worked for one year at Izmir Alsancak State Hospital. He then worked at Net Göz Medical Center for 14 years between 2005 and 2019.
