5. Diet. Hatice Karslıoğlu
I was born in 1974 in Çorum. I completed my primary, middle, and high school education in Çorum. When I took the university entrance exam, becoming a dietitian was not in my plans. I was very interested in architecture and psychology. Since I was placed in the mathematics department, I could not pursue psychology, leaving architecture as my only option. My guidance counselor suggested dietetics, recommending I include it in my choices. I did not expect to become a dietitian and listed it last on my preferences. At that time, the idea of being a dietitian never crossed my mind.
In 1990, I was admitted to the dietetics program. I was unhappy because it was not my first choice, but I had no other option and had to complete the program. When I encountered patients, I realized how well-suited the profession was for me. At that time, dietetics was not as well-known, and opportunities were limited to hospitals. This did not suit me because I loved creating and helping people. After graduating from Hacettepe University Department of Nutrition and Dietetics in 1995, I worked for 8 months at a private hospital in Çorum. At 21, I had responsibilities over nurses and cleaning staff while practicing as a dietitian.
In 1996, despite my father’s objections, I started working in the obesity field at Nutra Slim Weight Loss Center in Ankara. I was selected from 65 applicants. Obesity was not as common at that time, and working in this field helped me decide my professional focus. Helping people regain health and witnessing psychological transformation was incredibly rewarding. Patients who were shy, depressed, or physically limited would transform over six months into confident, healthier individuals, which gave me immense satisfaction.
In 1998, I founded my own Nutrition and Diet Consultancy Center in Çorum, being one of the three dietitian consultancy centers in Turkey at the time. I continued successfully for 7 years, promoting dietetics and providing education on healthy eating, weight loss, diabetes, and childhood obesity.
Seeking further growth, I moved to England in 2005 for language training, gaining a new perspective on my profession. Upon returning in 2006, I worked as Head Dietitian in a multidisciplinary weight loss center in Ankara for 1.5 years, collaborating with doctors, physiotherapists, and exercise specialists.
I also enjoyed working with children. In Çorum, I conducted special educational programs for obese children, using theater and drama to teach nutrition, achieving significant results in building confidence and promoting healthy habits. Later, in Ankara, I worked with children with insulin pumps, children with weight issues, and children with poor appetite for one year.
In 2010, I founded Kibem Center in Ankara (Kibem stands for Personal Nutrition Education Center). At that time, dietitian consultancy centers were scarce in Ankara. I continued working on weight loss, diabetes, and hypothyroidism while also publishing my free nutrition magazine NEFİS for 1.5 years. I hosted a radio program on TRT FM focusing on children’s nutrition and contributed articles to magazines such as Mag and Life, and appeared on TV programs like Beyaz TV, Star TV, Derya Baykal, Dr. Aytuğ, Mesut Yar, and Ebru Akel. I also wrote for Posta Newspaper, Habertürk, Milliyet, and Hürriyet.
In 2014, I opened my second branch in Çayyolu, Ankara, and started home-delivery diet meals under Kibem Diet Kitchen, adapting traditional regional foods into healthy options using whole wheat ingredients. I continued this for five years, until 2019, when I closed due to my mother’s illness. In 2018, I published a weight-loss book titled “Kibem Diet.” In 2020, I moved to Mustafa Kemal Neighborhood, Ankara, continuing my nutrition and diet consultancy services. Recently, I completed training in Functional Medicine and am now a Functional Medicine Dietitian.
I am currently serving my clients at my private office in Ankara Çankaya.
